An Ode to Our First Black Female President

You are a unifier. You brought the American people together based on a shared vision and the realization that we are all in this together.

You are a fighter. You are “a wild-eyed radical” who sees things the way most Black women do. You fight for affordable housing and healthcare, criminal justice reform, better education for our children, healthy bodies and a healthy planet, a fair economy, and so much more!

You are fair and just. You believe in the rule of law. So do we, even if these days that’s radical!

You are a voice for those who don’t get heard and that’s most of us here in the U.S.

You are loyal. You love your country and your family and friends too. Because you know what it is like to be loved and to stand by others in good times and bad.

You are resilient. To quote Langston Hughes, “Life for [you] ain’t been no crystal stair.” Still, you keep climbing! You don’t quit. Instead, you use your pain and genius to keep fighting for us.

You are powerful.

You are us. You are homegrown, homespun, and have real American values. Thus, we know that with you in office, “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth” – and frankly, that’s what we’ve been looking for.

Angela & Jocelyn
